Into the Woods
Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim weaves together many famous fairy tales in an allegorical story about family, love, growing up, and the hazy lines between right and wrong. Timothy Sheader directed this production, which was captured live by Digital Theatre at London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Into the Woods gives the Brothers Grimm's stories a dark and humorous twist. The popular stories of Red Riding Hood, Jack (of the Beanstalk fame), Cinderella, and Rapunzel are intertwined with the Baker and his Wife and their quest to have a child. However, this retelling goes beyond "happily ever after," as the familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar situations, and hopes and dreams are questioned and revisited.
