It's 1933, and eight young women, friends and upper-class members at a private girls' school, are about to graduate and embark on their own lives. The film chronicles their romances and marriages, their searches for careers or meaning in their lives, their highs and lows in the years between graduation and the outbreak of World War II in Europe, in a serialized format.
