After a fissure reluctantly opens in an English sand apartment throughout a military practice there, injuring one soldier and murdering another, an American researcher at a nearby nuclear plant joins with an British investigator to discover why the sufferers were radioactively burned and why, shortly thereafter, a run of radiation-related incidents are occurring within a ever-growing straight line apart from the fissure.
