21 Jump Street
This American police procedural crime drama aired on the Fox Network and in first-run syndication for a total of 103 episodes from April 12, 1987, to April 27, 1991. The show follows a group of undercover cops, all of whom appear to be in their twenties, as they investigate crimes in high schools, colleges, and other places frequented by students. As a result of Fox's request, it was renamed Jump Street Chapel, a reference to the deconsecrated church edifice in which the unit's offices are located, rather than Jump Street Chapel. With the assistance of 20th Century Fox Television, the show was developed by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell and produced by the two men's respective companies. Hasburgh, Cannell, Steve Beers, and Bill Nuss served as Executive Producers. The show was an early success for the Fox network and was designed to appeal to a younger demographic. Local Fox stations aired the final season in first-run syndication. From 1996 until 1998, it was shown again on the FX cable network. Johnny Depp's fledgling acting career got a boost thanks to the show, which made him an adolescent idol idol across the country. However, despite Depp's displeasure with the show's new status, he continued to appear in episodes as required by his contract, which paid him $45,000 per episode. After the fourth season, he was let go from his contract. Booker, a one-season spin-off series based on Dennis Booker's character, premiered in September 1989 and lasted through June 1990. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum star in a 2012 film adaptation of the book.
