The boy genius Quinn Mallory opens the portal to an endless number of Earths in his San Francisco basement. During a trial run, Quinn invites coworker Wade Wells and his professor, Professor Maximillian Arturo, to view his new invention. But a surge in power and an early departure leave them, along with a jaded soul singer dubbed Rembrandt "Crying Man" Brown, trapped in a parallel universe. Now they must "slide" from world to world, not just adapting to their ever-changing environments, but also attempting to return home. Will they make it back home?
