In this movie, which is based on a Neil Simon play, a free-spirited woman named Corie and a strict lawyer named Paul Bratter live together in a Greenwich Village apartment on the sixth floor. Soon after she and her husband got married, Corie tried to find her mother Ethel, who was now alone, a friend. She set her up with her neighbor Victor. On a double date, rude behavior causes a fight, and the young couple starts to think about getting a divorce.
