On 3 April 2004, during the holiday of Ashura, Iraqi rebels loyal to Shiite leader Muktada As-Sadr, found an insurgency at the zone. Even the Poles, along with police and soldiers, were given the task of protecting City Hall. The conflict developed as World War II in to the Polish participation. But roughly 80 insurgents were killed in a counterattack, not a single allied soldier died.
