The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Director Hiroshi Saitô brought The Adventures of Tom Sawyer to Japanese television in 1980. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is the inspiration for this film. The series was initially titled "Tom Sawyer no Bken" and aired on Fuji TV's World Masterpiece Theater, which featured an animated rendition of a new classic novel or narrative from Western literature each year. For the first time since 1977's Rascal the Raccoon, the series included a story written by an American author. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" was also dubbed into English by Saban International and shown on HBO circa 1988. When it first aired at 7:30 a.m., it was in direct competition with the WMT version of "Little Women." The "All New Adventures of Tom Sawyer" videos were distributed in the United States by Celebrity Home Entertainment. As of January 2011, the anime can be seen on the NHK cable station TV Japan in the United States.
